an ode to the record of stan frederick

if you've followed me for any amount of time, you'll know i have a very long and complicated relationship with the slenderverse. what turned into a middle school nostalgia revist quickly became one of the most important parts of my life in ways i would never have expected, and one of my longest running inspirations and interests. i genuinely love the slenderverse with all my heart, and the one series i feel can truly capture everything i love about it is the record of stan frederick.

i have loved stan frederick with all of my heart ever since i watched in 2020, at the time unwilling to watch things as they progressed due to my own insanity over unfinished endings, i waited until it had ended to watch it all in full. i rememeber not even being a few episodes in and kicking myself for not watching it sooner, i was genuinely sooo pissed at myself that i had put it off for so long, as i had heard some ppl talk about it on tumblr and discord but was too busy being in a niche everymanhybrid haze of obsessing deeply over side plots that, like, three people tops cared about.

stan frederick insatnly pulled me in with it's premise and style. people underestimate the way visual styling goes into slenderverse a lot, but i personally feel like even the way stan frederick is filmed embodies the character in a way most people wouldn't really consider. it starts as an almost semi-professional work vlog, and this ties into how solid the premise is on it's own. a character whos escaped the cycle (maybe) that every other series takes as a death sentence. almost immediately it just opens such a good box of questions that seem so obvious but are so seamlessly and creatively woven into the fabric of the series. i feel like oftentimes people in the slenderverse communties fandom side wonder what life would be like on the other side of the infection. stan frederick has such interesting things to say about what that would even be like. there's also the fact that we, the audience, know that this life after probably wont be a life after for much longer, as we all know how these things go.

slenderman is stan's misygonist boss. i could probably write an essay about that

anyway let me blab about stan now. stan has been one of my favorite characters of all time ever since i watched stan frederick for the first time and i feel like you can see that if you go through and the fact that for a really long time i couldnt draw anyone i hadnt drawn before because they would end up looking like the way i drew stan or the way i drew connor.

this is so much art and its only the stuff ive published

you know what else i love about stan frederick...? CONNOR DWIGHT BABYYYYYYY!!!!!! i was late to the party, so i didnt see stanfrederickbts until it was republished in (year) but the record of stan frederick is so well written that its impossible not be facinated by connor just by the way hes discussed.

this blog will problably be a mix of short tangents about stuff like this and long rants about characters i like and projects ill be working on. i wanna try and use the stamps and gifs im hoarding in them too but i dont know how lol. im thinking of doing a monthly wrapup, but we will see if i commit to that. with love,

truant OUT!
